Seymour Alternative Farming Expo Celebrates 20 Years

In 2011 the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo will be celebrating its 20th birthday.

Since 1991 the Expo has developed into the most successful alternative farming expo in the Southern Hemisphere.

With over 500 exhibitors the Expo is a massive outdoor supermarket with a strong emphasis on entertainment.

There is also a range of technology at the Expo which focuses on advances in alternative livestock, cropping enterprises, small to medium farm machinery, implements and building systems.

General Manager and Organiser, Colin Stray, explained the introduction of an arts competition in 2011.

“We are encouraging different forms of art including photographs, paintings and sculptures” Mr Stray said.

Entrants from school level through to professional are welcome.

“In the 3D section we are looking for people who have the ability to do things with their hands,” Mr Stray said.

Mr Stray encourages entrants from a range of areas including, building, craft and pottery.

As always the Expo will have a strong focus on lifestyle.

Producers have the opportunity to sell their produce at the Farmer’s Market Section which Mr Stray said was always popular.

Regular events will include the Snake Show, Chainsaw Carving, Working Sheep Dogs, Country Cook Off and the Butchers Shop, Gourmet Food  Court, GOTAFE Building Lectures, Agricultural Society Lectures and the NMIT Ag Zone Lectures.

The Expo is designed for small exhibitors whose products are a little different.

‘The public are interested in the back shed inventor and that is what the show will be offering,” Mr Stray said.

The Alternative Farming Expo is held at Kings Park in Tallarook St, Seymour.
